The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a program for catechumens and candidates entering into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. The journey to and through the Rites of Initiation requires discernment and dedication to appreciate the commitment and obligations involved. The period of purification and enlightenment for a catechumen can take up to twelve months or more.
