But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God ~ John 1:12
What's in a name? |
People are known personally by their names and nowhere was this more important than among the Israelites. Jesus is the Latin form of the Hebrew Jeshua meaning "Jehovah our Savior." Christ, or Christos, is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew word Messiah meaning “anointed”. The name Jesus Christ defines the one anointed by God to save us from our sins.
The Father sent His only Son to us out of boundless love as the Lamb for the ultimate and final sacrifice to be made for all humanity. There is nothing that we can offer God in return other than a humble and contrite heart. Repent and call upon the sacred name of Jesus Christ knowing that YOU are adopted and loved as a child of God. |

Why be Catholic? We live in confusing times where it seems anything goes. Antichristic assaults against Divine and natural law and persecution of the Church are the new 'old normal'. In this wayward and increasingly hostile environment there is an urgent corresponding need to communicate the loving Truth. Christ instructed Peter the Apostle to "feed my sheep" (John 21:17) saying, "upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18).
Know Christ and observe what He commands in love of God. The entire living Deposit of Faith authoritatively preserved and handed on by the teaching Magisterium for two thousand years is offered to YOU to apply in your life and the world today. From this Rock, as Apostle Paul said to the Corinthians, you can stand firm in the faith, do so courageously and be strong. |

If you are approaching the Church for the first time or returning from a period of absence, start by attending weekly Mass.
